Notable figures like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya were all in attendance during the practice session, just two days before their fourth World Cup encounter against Bangladesh.

During the innings break of the Netherlands and South Africa match, Star Sports shared a video clip of India’s practice session in Pune, and one particular moment left former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar intrigued.

In the video, Rohit Sharma was seen bowling to Ravindra Jadeja, sparking a positive response from the former batter. It hinted that the captain might be considering contributing a few overs of off-spin during the Bangladesh match, highlighting the evolving strategy compared to past Indian teams that relied mainly on specialist bowlers. Manjrekar commented, ‘Now, that’s an interesting development! Rohit Sharma hinted at this possibility in the press conference at the start of the tournament.

While India is performing well, having a batsman who can bowl is always advantageous. Rohit possesses the talent and a lovely bowling action. This could provide India with additional flexibility in their bowling attack, especially against teams like Bangladesh, which feature several left-handers in their top 7.’

Manjrekar also noted that it seemed like India was hesitant to include Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI, making it a significant decision. To accommodate Ashwin, one of the seam bowlers would need to be dropped, and it appeared that the team was not keen on making Hardik Pandya the third bowler. This situation led to Ashwin providing tips to Rohit Sharma, indirectly influencing his chances of securing a spot in the starting lineup.

The last time Rohit Sharma bowled in an ODI match was back in 2016 during a game against Australia in Perth, where he bowled a single over and conceded 11 runs. Over the course of his ODI career spanning 38 innings, he has taken eight wickets in 98.5 overs.

Before the bowling session on Tuesday, which was cut short after being taken on by Hardik Pandya, Rohit, alongside Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, faced the fast bowlers in a batting session. Kohli spent the most time at the crease, while Hardik showcased his big-hitting abilities. Later, Ashwin bowled to Jadeja as the second set of batters took over the batting session.

Shreyas Iyer practiced facing throwdowns, and Ishan Kishan, who featured in the first two games against Australia and Afghanistan, also honed his batting skills, facing deliveries from Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav in tandem.”
